Reports from each workshop will be presented in Plenary 3 starting a 4:00pm

2:00-3:30pm

Workshop 1

Coding Issues in AKI
Co-Chairs: Michael Joannidis, MD and David G. Warnock, MD

This workshop will discuss the need for common terminology and labeling of AKI for the ICD-10 codes that are used internationally.  Proposals for new terminology of acute kidney disease, staging of AKI and the relationship to chronic kidney disease will be described.  The process by which the CKD CPT codes were developed will be reviewed as a starting point. Using a similar approach, this workshop will develop a consensus document for updating the CPT codes for Acute Renal Failure so that the current usage of Acute Kidney Disease and Acute Kidney Injury are incorporated into the codes.
